Landsford Canal State Park, Catawba, South Carolina

Lansford Canal State Park is located in Chester County just two miles from US 21. The actual address is 2051 Park Drive; Catawba, SC 29704.

When I got there it had just finished raining. Though I am quite sure it was not over either. Then when I actually got to the water area it was high. That didn't stop me from shooting a few photos though. It also had several large logs or trees rolling down the canal.

The park has a small fee of $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-15 and children under 6 are free. There is also a senior discount if you live in South Carolina - $3.25. The park is open everyday from daylight to dark and has office hours from 11am to noon everyday.

The main attractions are canoeing, kayaking, nature watching and having a picnic there. Other activities include fishing, walking the canal structures and searching for particular wildflowers and nature via small trails alongside canal.

See also http://southcarolinaparks.com/landsfordcanal/introduction.aspx for more information about pets and other locations near the canal for paddling, hiking and sightseeing.

This is a sign you will see to turn down the road to get to the park.

An abandoned place on corner of road - cross way as you are heading to park.

Front "gate" you see along the park. One of my mother's favorite style of fencing. Driving along the park drive you see them. As well as getting to a point where you pay - Not a person but a station of a box and cash placed in an envelope. Its a matter of trust the park rangers have with their patrons.

The actual sign when you get to the location of the park.

The first few sights you see when you park your car. Yes there is enough parking. There is handicap parking. The park shown here, there is an entire sidewalk system to see the park and canal area. I did get off the sidewalk to take some photographs of the canal at different angles.  The first building with white stone is the public restrooms. Lit nicely and sinks are good.

First sight to the left of me getting out of my car. In a distance you can see play areas and some good size walking areas.

This is views looking in directly at left of center. The sign of Landford Canal as shown above, the picnic area and the play area for children. On far side outer is the canal and water but not very visible through the trees.

The close up of the playground area for children.

The covered picnic area.

Angled view of restroom building and canal structure building homesite. (forewarning is when the slate and sidewalk are wet be careful. They are a little slippery and slimy.)

Several views of the canal waters and the large tree debris. I gave several angles and hope the magnitude of the rains are implied here.

I would not forgo the natural textures of tree bark.

Certainly not miss out on the striking color of  green either..

This is the angle coming up from the canal to the homesite structure. (Not sure when it was built, whether old or reconstructed to look that way)

Plaque mentioning information about structure. I enjoyed the rocking chairs, although donated later.

View of the boards and mortar

Gooey sap knot .

Barn door latch.

I believe we stayed a good 30 minutes before it started to pour again. The ranger actually told us that we should think about heading out because he was leaving to do rounds and it was going to pour soon.

So we headed back towards home after this. It was a nice day even though it rained.

So until next time.

This is a ginger walking. Hoping for daisy finds.
