Charleston adventure

So far I have just enjoyed relaxing at a friend's house. Sleeping and lounging. Part of the time here has been just talking about all the good times in the past and the silly stuff and the other part has just been enjoying the silence.

A bit of refreshing peace that makes me see that social media can be contained to one or two views on instagram or to send a message to a friend in another place and time. A bit of a slow down. Granted where my friend is, isn't any of that but to get away from my hectic life and just absorb myself into her house. Bliss.

Forgetting about the disappointment of guy friends and the rambling nonsense from the boot I am wearing to get around. Grounded in a way from doing too much fun. I am reminded that family and friends of long ago is the seed of contentment. The finding place you can hold yourself and reflex who you need to become.

So tonight, being here for 2 days, we decided to just run and get some drawing pads but ended up riding all around Charleston and getting some good simple photos of the Charleston Harbor, the ocean and the Colonial Lake nearby.

Simple times. Laughing and enjoying the breeze alongside of the flashes of lightning and sprinkles of rain. This outweighs this blah of disappointing friends. This emotional roller coaster of realizing promises mean nothing to some.

So I took pictures of the water to forget I was ever important to any one person. Its nice to remember I can be me and not have to worry about pleasing anyone. Surprisingly just how distant I can be to those who thought they knew me in my home place.

The water and chatter with family made me forget that some people just are NOT capable of saying anything real. (enough about my issues) Enjoy the view I had tonight.

The water was really chopping in the Charleston Harbor and it was pretty high too.

First, initially saw this boat passing as we were heading to the corner of the harbor where the Atlantic Ocean actually begins.  But we came back around to see it pass. This is pretty awesome shot considering I was riding in a car that was not slowing down for these photos.

Sailboat in motion. Sails are in focus but the sidewalk and part of the water is blurry.

Saw plenty of houses I wanted to photograph at a later date, even maybe a later season.

Then we traveled through town and got to this lake. One my friend and I keep forgetting exists.
Colonial Lake in Charleston. Just a hint of a view.

Full view from back to mid and down to the beginning.

This is near the front or top of the lake. Has greenery and wide sidewalks. It is nice to walk around but the rain was starting to become more like a steady drizzle so we hurried along.

Got back to the house and was just completely fazed out of the situation prior. Shockingly I was not surprised but still it hurts.

And now. Here it is 1:30am and I am just settling for the night. I had to express and give some signs that I am still wanting to give a review of the area as well as show people points of interest wherever I go.

So until next time.

This is a ginger walking. Hoping for daisy finds.

Country stroll

So I finally made it out for a small adventure on Tuesday August 1st. It was nice to finally get out to have some exercise for the mind and the soul. My spirit still a bit restless and I knew I would soon be capable to relax.

So where did I go?  A few small towns in South Carolina. As far as I can on a day trip.

 sweet plum

deeeeeelicious blackberries

Found these and a few others on my instagram @gemstone.nomadic.red.artist  at a local place called Peaches and Cream. It is a good market off 74 heading out of North Carolina.

Ford truck (sorry have no idea of make and year) If you know it please comment. I would love to know.

Then as a treat I wandered into an Antique store. Very hot outside and even though there was very little air condition on or there was none, they had it as cool as they could get it. Had a slight musky scent because of the antiques. It was worth the look around. I loved the jewelry section. Of course that is my favorite as well as books (but I didn't see many). The jewelry was rather low in price but the fact they didn't know if the stone were real made the price go low. Honestly I am out of touch with the classifications that I should brush up again.

Anyhow I saw a few things that brought back plenty of memories from my childhood. Bouncing and rocking horse

Adding machine / register that I used to see at the general store in town.

Saw a child sized cello there. It was a memory of my son playing the cello.

Shoe "horns" or shoe stretchers. I remember these inside my grandfather's shoes. I never knew what he used them for except to keep the shape of his shoes. Yet I have seen people actually use them for stretching the shoes.

Young girl statue. So pretty. My sister would have loved something like this.

I love love vintage glass whether it was just everyday glass or if it was true crystal. I loved the texture of these. They reminded me of these odd juice glasses we used to drink out of, only ours were clear.

These ruby colored glasses remind me of my grandmother's special glasses. We usually used them at the holidays and drank eggnog out of them. For me it was chocolate milk because I don't like eggnog. Sorry for those who can't understand that. Bleh.

This piece was a decanter. So pretty was the iridescent sheen on the glass. I loved the prism like effect from the seating of the piece.

Then I stopped last minute at a furniture store that has vintage pieces there. It is located off 74 in Monroe, NC. I believe the name is Consignment 1st.

A vintage wooden pinball machine sat near the back without its plastic. I thought the flippers piece was good.

So near the back kitchen or rustic area of the the building there are several old stoves and 40s and 50s kitchen items I found this scale. I don't know when it was made but I thought it was pretty cool and accurate. I know it would just be a show piece somewhere but still awesome to see. Yes the price is what they want for it, right in front.

I saw lots of distinct pieces of furniture. Despite this knowledge this is the piece I love the most. Above the green lounge chair. (not pictured and don't even have a picture of)

Box camera. Not sure if pinhole camera or not. Kind of rusty on the knowledge of cameras since I stopped collecting 10 yrs or so ago. This camera still had film in it. Not completely brittle but felt like vintage paper. It was cool and I tried to remove it. They originally wanted $12.99 for it but the price was marked out. Assuming it was a lower price, I still didn't need it. So I refrained from purchasing it.

Another camera I saw close by. I did not recognize the name.  Just was cool that they marked this price to 20 something dollars and the lens inside was cracked. Um Okay.

This piece. Ah my high school and college days relived. The way to develop a roll of 35mm film and then take the negatives into the darkroom and really develop some beauties. The past was fun.  Nowadays it is easier to "develop" because of the digital world but golly those were fun times of the days gone.

So that was the gist of my day on the 1st of August. It was kindness in finding memories and pulling my mind away from all that was making muck of the hours passing.

So until next time.

This is a ginger walking. Hoping for daisy finds.
